Full Description

Each of these hand-crafted baskets take days to make and showcase the distinctive weaving style of Zambia’s Batonga women. This 18 inch piece is made from sun-dried palm leaves that are carefully boiled in natural dye. Mix and match with the rest of our collection for a striking wall basket display or use as a centerpiece on your table or countertop.

Please note that, due to handmade nature, there may be slight variations in size and design. The plant-based dyes used in this item may have a mild odor that will fade within a few days. Measures 18 inches in diameter.

Founder Ellen Dorsch visited rehab centres in Ethiopia where women were sewing and embroidering table cloths. There market was a small bazaar and ex-pats living in Addis Ababa as their customers. The opportunity to improve the lives of these women and maintaining a centuries-old art became apparent.
